Mr. Dan Prendergast †
Dan Prendergast grew up in London, Ontario and obtained his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Western University. He first started teaching at Scollard Hall High School in North Bay, and in 1962 he was hired by St. Michael’s College School.
He and his late wife, Sharon, raised four children, Erin, Kelly, Danny Jr. ’89, and Ryan ’03. Sharon’s father was a St. Michael’s graduate as were her two brothers, Paul Flanagan ’54 and Bryan Flanagan ’56. Dan and Sharon’s two sons, Danny and Ryan, graduated from St. Michael’s and now their grandson, Ben Fox ’19, is in Grade 8 at St. Michael’s.
In 1970, Dan earned a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Ottawa, and was later named Director of Counselling Services at St. Michael’s.
In 1993, he was named Vice Principal and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1996. After he retired, the then Principal, Fr. Thomas Mohan, CSB ’48 asked Dan if he would serve on a part-time basis in the Fundraising and Alumni Departments. Dan has supported the school in this capacity until the present day, giving him a total of 52 1/2 years of service to St. Michael’s.
Along with his teaching, counselling, and administrative duties, Dan added coaching to his duties. He coached basketball from 1962 to 1989 and was recognized as one of the top high school basketball coaches in the country.
