A Special Send-Off: Mothers and Sons Share Cherished Tradition
On Sunday, April 12, over 200 students and their mothers gathered for the annual Grade 12 Mother & Son Mass and Brunch, one of the hallmarks of the St. Michael’s College School experience.
The event celebrates our soon-to-be Class of 2026 graduates as they enter the final stretch of their high school journey and mark the first of many culminating traditions leading to graduation day.
The mass and brunch remains a highlight for the graduating class and their mothers.

Here’s what our students and their mothers had to say following the event:
“So proud to be part of such a beautiful St. Mike’s tradition. A truly special moment for all graduating boys and their moms—spending the morning together in prayer, receiving a blessing from Father Leung, and sharing a delicious breakfast. A very proud moment for me to see my boy who has grown into a St. Mike’s man.” – Franca Siesto
“Attending the event with my mom was a really meaningful experience. I’m very grateful to the school for creating an opportunity like this to pause and reflect on everything leading up to graduation. Sharing that moment with my mom meant a lot to me, especially considering all the support and encouragement she has given me throughout my St. Mike’s journey. It’s a memory I’ll definitely carry with me, and I’m incredibly thankful to both my mom and the school for making it possible.” – Harris Kim
“The SMCS Mother & Son Mass and Brunch was a real highlight of our six years at St. Mike’s. Seeing the boys with their friends and meeting more Grade 12 moms from the SMCS family was really special. As we get closer to graduation, we recognize the importance of these truly rare moments that continue to bring to life why our children have excelled at SMCS.” – Lindsay Cox
“The Mother & Son Mass and Brunch was one of the most enjoyable events that I have attended at St. Mike’s during my six years. I truly appreciated the opportunity to spend time with my mom and see my friends’ resemblance to theirs!” – Henry De Blois
“I wanted to send a big thank you for the brunch on Sunday. I’ve been waiting for six years for this opportunity, and it was even better than I expected.” – Michelle Perera
“Attending the mother-son brunch on Sunday was a really meaningful experience, especially with graduation so close. Being there with my mom made me reflect on how much she’s supported me through everything leading up to this moment. Singing in the choir added something special, too—it felt like a way to give back and be part of something bigger. Overall, it’s a memory I’ll carry with me as I move into this next chapter.” – Luke Rebello
“Thank you to SMCS for organizing this truly beautiful event. Seeing my son in that room with all his classmates brought tears to my eyes and made me so proud to be part of the St. Mike’s community. I am incredibly grateful to everyone at the school for giving us this wonderful memory, which I will cherish for many years to come.” – Stephanie Cesca
“Attending such an event hosted by the school with my mother was more than simply special to me; it was something I know I will continue to reminisce on so long as the blue stays in my veins. This event allowed my mother and me to bond in a way like no other and gave us a chance to spend the quality time we deeply appreciate. Thank you, St. Mike’s. This was truly the good!” – Leo Favero
“The mother-son brunch is something I look forward to each year as not only a time to spend with my son but also to see him in the setting of the school, with his friends and in his element. This year was bittersweet, being the final one, but it was extra special, being hosted at the Liberty Grand. Looking around the room, seeing the faces of the other moms, who, like me, were proud of the accomplishments, happy to have the time together, emotional that this final year is quickly wrapping up, and cherishing the moment before our boys leave St. Mike’s and become men. What I will remember the most is the joy and smiles on all the boys’ faces as they shared the day not only with us, their moms, but with their friends.” – Melanie Sparkes
“I had been to the Grade 12 Mother & Son Mass and Brunch many times before as a band and choir member, but attending with my mom and having lunch with her in such a nice setting with other peers and their mothers was an amazing experience. I have to say the whole event went by very smoothly and felt like a great start of the end to my St. Michael’s experience.” – Peter Favero
