Celebrating the Class of 2021

In this entirely unordinary school year, this year’s extraordinary graduating class stepped up, persevered, and demonstrated what it means to be a St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) student.

“The graduating Class of 2021 is packed with outstanding individuals who have demonstrated creativity, wisdom, and perseverance through some of the most challenging times in the history of St. Michael’s College School,” says James McKinnon, Principal of SMCS. “They, collectively, can be considered extraordinary, and we look forward to how they will influence and change the world. We look forward to the rest of their story.”

The 187 graduates of the Class of 2021 will be attending 17 universities across Canada and seven in the United States, including Harvard University, McMaster University, University of California Los Angeles, Queen’s University, and many more.

The brand-new members of the SMCS Alumni Association received a total of over 800 university offers across North America and over $325,000 in scholarship and bursary funding.

This year, more than half of the Class of 2021 received the Basilian Book Award for attaining an average of 90% or higher.

Over 100 graduates also received the St. Thomas More Society Award this year. The award is granted to graduating students who have consistently maintained an average of at least 80% in each of their SMCS high school years.

What are our graduates studying?

“This Class has distinguished itself by preserving the sense of community, camaraderie, and collegiality through a period of exceptional challenge,” says John Connelly, Director of Student Affairs at SMCS. “Despite the limitations imposed on their lives by a global pandemic, members of the Class of 2021 have retained the essence of what it means to be St. Michael’s men. They have upheld and even exceeded the strong academic standards for which St. Michael’s is rightly celebrated. They have found the strength to care for their friends, neighbours, and family through ongoing service and outreach.”

While we were unable to welcome back the entire graduating class and their families to walk through our yellow-brick hallways together one last time, their incredible accomplishments were shared and celebrated in a virtual ceremony.

Class of 2021 graduates walked through the SMCS Students' Arch for the first time after receiving their diplomas.

Graduates were also welcomed back in cohorts for a special graduation diploma conferral ceremony in the courtyard and traditional Arch Walk on the front lawn, both physically distanced.
