Introducing the New Faculty & Staff of SMCS in 2026-27

As the 2026-27 academic year officially begins, St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) is excited to welcome the newest faculty and staff members joining our community.

SMCS Staff - Jennifer BucciJennifer Bucci
Bucci has joined SMCS as the new Coordinator of Athletic Life. She is a highly accomplished athletics and student development professional with advanced degrees in higher education and student affairs (University of Nebraska Kearney) and in human resources and organizational development (Eastern Michigan University). Bucci brings extensive experience in athletic operations, student leadership development, facility management, and more. Bucci is a former NCAA Division I team captain and professional softball player.
SMCS Faculty - David DiatDavid Diat
Diat begins his long-term occasional teaching role as a French teacher at SMCS in September 2026. He is a bilingual secondary school educator with more than 10 years of teaching experience in France and the United States, and five years in an international school environment.

SMCS Staff - Emil EmilovEmil Emilov
Emilov began at SMCS as a Safe Officer in August 2026 and brings more than 15 years of experience in customer service, security, and concierge across residential, commercial, and customer-focused environments. His background includes leadership experience as a concierge supervisor, supporting property management operations and team members. Emilov is a graduate of Seneca College’s International Business Administration programme and holds several industry certifications, including an Ontario Security License.
SMCS Staff - Kyle FergusonKyle Ferguson
Ferguson began his role as the new Coordinator of Spiritual Life/Lay Chaplain in August 2026. He is a familiar face to some, previously serving as a guest teacher during the past academic year. Ferguson has a bachelor of business administration from Bishop’s University, master of divinity from the University of St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto, and a master of arts in theology and licentiate of sacred theology from Dominican University College (Carleton University).
SMCS Faculty - Michael GoncalvesMichael Goncalves ’00
Goncalves is an alumnus of SMCS and begins his role as a Learning Strategist in the LEC. He’s an experienced educator and coach with more than 15 years of service in Catholic education. Goncalves holds a bachelor of education from the University of Toronto and has extensive qualifications in special education, cooperative education, guidance and career education, health and physical education, and crisis prevention intervention (CPI).
Kasthuri Kanesalingam, SMCS StaffKasthuri Kanesalingam
Kanesalingam began her role as Advancement Coordinator in April 2026. She brings a strong background in administration, advising, compliance, and confidential information management, developed through progressive roles at the University of Toronto and Elections Ontario. She is currently completing a master of science in health and rehabilitation sciences (health promotion) at Western University. Kanesalingam’s experience includes administrative work, support for admissions and financial aid, and handling public inquiries.
Marco Lopez, ITMarco López
López joined the IT team as the new IT Helpdesk Analyst in October 2025. He brings over a decade of experience in enterprise IT support and systems administration. He previously supported executives and staff at Brookfield Asset Management, Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP, and Cassels Brock LLP, delivering second-level support, managing IAM onboarding, and leading hardware/software implementations. His expertise spans Microsoft technologies, Cisco communications, Citrix, ServiceNow, and video conferencing systems.
SMCS Faculty - Louie PolyzoisLouie Polyzois ’09
Polyzoi has joined the Core Department as a teacher. With the Toronto Catholic District School Board, he brings a diverse background in special education, classroom instruction, student advocacy, and extracurricular leadership. Throughout his career, he has developed and implemented Individual Education Plans (IEPs), collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to support student success, and fostered inclusive learning environments through differentiated instruction and evidence-based teaching practices.
SMCS Staff - Kordel ReidKordel Reid
Reid joined SMCS as a Safe Officer in August 2026 and brings over a decade of experience in security, client services, and community support, with a background in crisis intervention, safety management, and assisting vulnerable populations. In his previous roles, he provided support and guidance, responded to client concerns, and delivered crisis intervention services. His experience also includes event security, close protection services, access control, and incident management in high-volume environments.
SMCS Staff - Aryan SultaniAryan Sultani
Sultani began his role as IT Network and Systems Administrator in May 2026. He brings strong expertise in Windows Server administration, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure, and virtualization technologies including VMware and Citrix, complemented by advanced skills in cybersecurity and automation through PowerShell scripting. He has successfully led initiatives such as large-scale system migrations, enterprise security enhancements for thousands of users, and infrastructure optimization projects.


Returning Faculty and New Roles

SMCS Faculty Darryl Giancola, Core Intermediate and EnglishDarryl Giancola
Giancola returns to his role as Assistant Head of the Core Intermediate Department and teacher following a leave of absence.
Andrew Kiel, SMCS FacultyAndrew Kiel
Kiel transitions from Coordinator of Spiritual Life to the classroom as a full-time teacher in the Theology Department.
Andrew Kos, SMCS FacultyAndrew Kos
Kos is returning to the classroom as a full-time teacher after serving as the Coordinator of Athletic Life for the last three years.

Amy McLennan, SMCS FacultyAmy McLennan
McLennan has returned to SMCS following a leave of absence and moves into her new role as Head of the Music Department.
SMCS Peter Zavodny '97 Mathematics TeacherDr. Peter Zavodny ’97
Zavodny returns to his role as a math teacher following a leave of absence.
