Music Students Celebrate Advent with Live Concerts
The St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) Music Department ushered in the 2024 Advent season with four concerts featuring almost 250 music students from Grades 7-12 performing in 11 different ensembles.
The concert series marked the first live stage performances for the school’s entry-level ensembles (Grade 8 Band and Grade 9 Beginner Band), after just learning how to make a sound on their instrument in September. The concerts were emceed by our senior music class. One of the series highlights included a community educational concert for over 300 local elementary school students hosted by the Senior Concert Band and Senior Jazz Ensemble.
“Our Christmas concerts are always a focal point of our department as our talented music students are given the opportunity to share their passion for performance in a live setting and showcase what they have accomplished in our first few months together,” says Jamie Oatt, Music Department head.
