New Clubs Highlight Co-Curricular Offerings

After-school matters at St. Michael’s College School (SMCS), where its co-curricular programme offers a diverse range of opportunities, from athletics to the arts, to a slate of over 60 clubs and activities.

“We are blessed with so many opportunities for students to pursue their passion or those who want to try new things,” says Tyler Hill ’05, teacher and co-curricular activities coordinator. “These opportunities provide students with additional avenues to connect, grow, and contribute to the school community. Alongside our strong athletics and arts programmes, they form an integral part of the SMCS experience, ensuring that every student finds a place to thrive.

The annual Clubs and Activities Fair in September welcomed over 400 students to visit booths and dynamic presentations from the more than 54 clubs and activities in attendance.

“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, particularly from younger students who valued the opportunity to learn about the wide range of options,” says Hill. “The diversity and breadth of clubs reflect the wide-ranging interests of our student body. At SMCS, we are committed to fostering holistic student development, and our extensive club offerings ensure that every student can engage in activities that are both meaningful and enriching.”

New to the offerings for the 2025-26 school year include:

Classical Literature Club: This club is envisaged to be a space for discussing the literature of the Ancient Greeks and Romans.

AI Innovation Club: The AI Innovation Club transforms ideas into tangible projects by exploring problems that matter to students, designing prototypes, and even building a mock start-up that could potentially launch. Along the way, students will grow their entrepreneurial skills and learn about problem-solving, using AI, designing, and pitching ideas. The club also discusses the ethics of AI and its environmental impact.

Blue Beetles: The purpose of the Blue Beetles is to build a supportive community that promotes healthy living, encourages time away from technology, and provides a safe and welcoming space for all members.

Makers Club: The Makers Club is the place for innovation and imagination! From building projects and experimenting with technology to hands-on crafts and creative problem-solving, this club is all about turning ideas into reality. No matter your skill level, if you enjoy designing, inventing, or just exploring how things work, you’ll find something for you here.

Rock Climbing Club: Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced climber, this club is all about building strength, confidence, and teamwork while having fun on the wall. We’ll explore climbing techniques, safety skills, and problem-solving on the routes. No experience required—just bring your energy and a willingness to try something new.

Capital Markets Club: Helping students explore finance and investing by learning how capital markets work through real-world applications, discussions, and hands-on activities.

Photography Club: This club aims to welcome all students who wish to expand their knowledge of photography and contribute to the yearbook with images of their school culture and sports.

Architecture Club: Students will learn about different architectural styles and important architects. Recent alumni and professionals will also be invited to speak with club members about architectural university programmes and the day-to-day life of architects.

Physics Club: Students will have a chance to explore topics of interest in physics. This could include cutting-edge science, interesting experiments, or even philosophical speculations about what might be. Students can also provide and receive extra help and prepare for upcoming physics competitions.

American Sign Language Club: This club aims to promote awareness and raise funds for ASL-affiliated institutions.

Adds Hill, “We have seen notable growth in career-oriented offerings—such as FBLC and HOSA last year, and AI Innovators and the Capital Markets Club this year—alongside renewed interest in both technology-focused clubs and those that support classroom learning, such as the Classic Literature Club. These experiences enhance student life by helping students discover a sense of belonging while creating lasting memories that extend well beyond their time at SMCS.”
