<h1>New Activities Highlight Grade 8 Winter Camp</h1>
<p>Grade 8 students were fortunate to receive a true winter camp experience during their outdoor and experiential education camp that took place the first week back at school.</p>
<p>“Camp was great – we had real winter weather for the first time in a few years with lots of snow,” says David Lee &#8217;94, vice principal. “The boys enjoyed the winter activities.”</p>
<p>The four-day annual experience for Grade 8 students takes place at Camp Wanakita every January in Haliburton and is facilitated by outdoor education company, ALIVE Outdoors.</p>
<p>Students had the opportunity to experience activities such as hiking, high ropes, snowshoeing, a cooking competition, Arctic and Inuit games, tubing, and more. New activities this year included a night hike and Nordic skiing across the frozen lake!</p>
<p>“Although many do participate in winter sports like hockey and skiing or snowboarding, many have never had the chance to walk across a lake lit by candles in the dark or learn about night vision or using the rest of our senses in the dark,” says Lee.</p>
<p>“The main goals are always to learn more about themselves and others and grow into better versions of themselves.”</p>
