Alumni Information Series: The Basics of Investing and Insurance Part Three

The St. Michael’s College School Alumni Association (SMCSAA) recently hosted the third and final installment of its Alumni Information Series: The Basics of Investing and Insurance earlier this month.

SMCS Alumni Information Series | Chris Smith

The complimentary virtual session was the first in the series which launched in May of 2020 offering alumni interesting, informative, and educational webinars and virtual workshops on relevant topics while connecting with former students online.

Special guest, Chris Smith ’06 joined series moderator Matt Montemurro ’05 to discuss various topics including breaking down the sometimes daunting idea of investing into segmented, easily understood concepts as well as how to progressively work through them.

Smith brings 10 years of experience working for banks, asset managers, and insurers and now owns his own wealth management business, Smith Financial Solutions. As President and Investment and Insurance Advisor, he focuses on ‘protecting your lifestyle’ through personalized financial planning, investing, and insurance.

The three-part session focused on types of investment accounts, how they are taxed, and where to open these accounts.

Part three of the series delved more into insurance, exploring both term and permanent insurance and the intricacies of the two. The session went in-depth on insurance policy contracts and illustrated the different types of insurance available based on individual needs. The goal was for alumni to take away the tools required to make informed decisions regarding their own insurance needs.

This series proved to be ideal for individuals new to investing and insurance as well as those who have a moderate understanding of the topic, but wanted to build on existing knowledge.
