Awards Ceremony Celebrates Student Academic Achievements
The annual Academic Awards Ceremony for St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) recognizes the incredible academic accomplishments of our students each year. This year, the ceremony was held virtually, highlighting students who achieved honour roll standing with an academic average of 80 per cent or greater.
“Academics is fundamental to what we do at St. Michael’s College School, and it is important to recognize and honour the students who have worked hard and distinguished themselves,” says Emile John ’87, vice principal.
Students were further recognized among their classmates following the ceremony when members of the administration visited homerooms to acknowledge their hard work and bestow commemorative pins to the honour roll recipients.
“This marks the first time such pins have been awarded,” says John. “The recognition of honour roll recipients in front of their classmates during homeroom proved to be both intimate and welcomed.”
Nearly 60 per cent of the student body earned the honour roll distinction in the 2023-24 academic year. Students who achieved 90 per cent or higher were further recognized with a Basilian Book Award and a $300 cheque from the Basilian Fathers, of which a staggering 112 students accomplished.
At each grade level, students with the top five academic averages were also distinguished with Basilian Scholarships totaling $60,000. The generosity of the Basilian Fathers saw close to $100,000 given in awards and scholarships throughout the ceremony.
