Fall Athletics Comes to a Successful Close
With the exciting expansion of St. Michael’s College School’s (SMCS) Prep Hockey and Basketball programmes, fall athletics participation rose to over 350 student-athletes. This remarkable level of engagement saw 17 teams compete across nine sports, several of which will continue their seasons into the new year.
“The fall season marked yet another season of monumental success both on and off the playing field for our sport programmes. Our student-athletes rose to the moment, capturing championships in every discipline and adding an impressive collection of medals across multiple age groups,” says Andrew Kos, Coordinator of Athletic Life.
“Beyond the wins, our boys distinguished themselves through their character, sportsmanship, and the way they consistently exemplified ‘the good’ in every community they entered. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated coaching staff and our supportive parent community for their unwavering commitment to athletics at St. Mike’s.”
Here is a recap of how SMCS teams fared during the fall season.

Cross Country
Varsity
The Varsity Cross Country Team continued their “Tradition of Excellence” in the 2025 season! The Novice Boys Team finished as CISAA Champions, the Junior Boys Team finished as CISAA Champions, and the Senior Team finished as the CISAA bronze medalists. With all three teams reaching the podium, the Varsity Cross Country Team once again took home the CISAA Overall Boys Championship for the 46th year! Jack Griffiths led the Novice Boys Team this year and finished 1st at the CISAA Championships. Ben Maiese led the Junior Boys Team this year and finished 1st at the CISAA Championships. Luke Adorante and Masiah Johnson-Charles led the Senior Team to their bronze medal. At the OFSAA Championships, the Junior Boys Team of Ben Maiese, Eamon Zietsma, Jack Maiese, Patrick Filippo, and Matviy Biszko captured the OFSAA bronze medal. Congratulations once again to all the spectacular athletes who represented the Big Blue Machine this year on the Varsity Cross Country Team!

U14
The U13 and U14 country teams had an outstanding 2025 season, participating in three qualifying meets and the CISAA finals. With commitment, hard work, grit, and determination, students practiced in the heat, the rain, and the bitter cold, working through the pain to improve their times and endurance. Their positive efforts and hard and fast final runs earned both teams a spot on the podium at the CISAA Finals. The U13 team was led by top scorers Sean Fitzpatrick 4th, Rolf Johansson 6th, and Myles Dickie 9th to secure a team CISAA silver medal finish. The U14 powerhouse team tied for first place, but ultimately took home silver in a tie-breaker, with Lochlan Clement placing 2nd, Parker Henstock chasing him down for 3rd, and Marcus Pretty and Andrew Saverino securing 11th and 12th place. With four runners in the top 20 in a deep field of 101 runners, the future looks bright for the Varsity Cross Country programme!

Football
Senior
The Senior Kerry Blues enjoyed an incredible season, finishing 6-0 before a hard-fought loss in the semi-finals. The team earned the number one city ranking and showcased excellence, discipline, and teamwork throughout the year. Several players received all-star recognition for standout performances. Off the field, the team continued its partnership with Rosethorn Junior School, mentoring JK/SK students through fun STEM-based activities that built connections and leadership skills. It was a season defined by brotherhood, growth, and pride.

Junior
The Junior Varsity Kerry Blues reclaimed their title as TDCAA Conference Champions for a second consecutive year. The Kerry Blues finished with an impressive 5-0 conference record and a 7-4 record overall. The offence was led by Carson Walsh, Jakob Garaboto, Martin Mojsovski, and Nick Reva. On the other side of the ball, the defence was anchored by Joseph White, Alex Merk, and Christos Louridas. Their success this season is a testament to the hard work and character of all the players, both on and off the field.

U14 Flag
The U14 Kerry Blues Flag Football team completed a remarkable season, finishing undefeated and capturing their first-ever CISAA Championship. Every player contributed to the team’s success, embracing their roles and supporting one another on and off the field. This championship run represents not only athletic achievement but also the growth of a confident, cohesive, and resilient group. Congratulations to the team on an undefeated season and their first CISAA Championship.

Golf
The Blue Eagles Golf Team soared to their second straight OFSAA provincial championship this season! In the open division, SMCS was led by Joseph Totino with bronze, Matthew Simpson in 7th, and Tyler Young in 49th. In the high school division, Matthew Castellarin finished in 5th place. With this accomplishment, the team now stands alone as the only school to capture three provincial titles (2019, 2024, 2025) in over 20 years.

Soccer
Senior
The Senior Azzurri’s season was one of perseverance and promise, defined by close battles, hard lessons, and steady growth. A few early draws, unfortunately, resulted in a narrow miss of the playoffs. The team often played its best against the league’s toughest opponents, leaving others unsure how to judge their true standing. We’re especially grateful to the new players who stepped up with impressive commitment and grit, and to graduating seniors for their four years of dedication and leadership. The team looks forward to building on this foundation and returning even hungrier next season.

Junior
The 2025 U16 Soccer season ended in triumph as they secured another CISAA Championship in a hard-fought game against Royal St. George’s College (RSGC). Throughout the season, the group demonstrated growth in all areas of the game, learned to work as a cohesive unit, and evidenced resiliency in overcoming early season setbacks. Coaches Bellissimo, Kiel, Lombardi, and Gallagher wish the Grade 10s the best at the senior level and look forward to continuing with the Grade 9s in the building of a successful soccer programme.

U14
The U14 Soccer team finished the Fall 2025 season as CISAA DI Boys Soccer champions! During the season, the team also finished atop the league table with four wins and two losses, earning home-field advantage in the playoffs. In the semi-final match for the league trophy, the team defeated Crescent School (CS) 8-2 to earn a spot in the final. In the championship match, after being down 0-2 with 10 minutes remaining against perennial rival Upper Canada College (UCC), the gritty U14’s came from behind to win 3-2 with an added-time winner scored by Christian “Jeppy” Jepson. The team’s top scorer was Matteo Mesiha with 14 goals.

Volleyball
Varsity
The 2025 Varsity Strikers delivered a dominant and cohesive season, rolling through CISAA to claim the league championship with a decisive 3-0 win over St. Andrew’s College (SAC). They added titles at both the SMCS Showcase and the prestigious Waterloo Overkill Tournament, highlighted by a win over OFSAA champions, Uxbridge. Mr. Kos and Ms. McDonald thank this trailblazing graduating class for its leadership on and off the court and for building a culture that will live on for generations.

Junior
The Junior Strikers had a strong season, winning the ECI Invitational and the Uxbridge Classic. They improved their league record from last year, losing only one game, and their playoff finish, capturing second place. The team graduates a core group into the senior programme, while a young group provides strong support and ensures the programme continues to grow.

U14 DI
The U14 Volleyball team enjoyed an exceptional season of growth and grit. The boys earned silver, coming within one game of gold, and reached the CISAA finals tied for first. Several players delivered standout performances throughout the year, stepping up in crucial moments. Off the court, the team focused on character-building and strong camaraderie. Reflecting on the year, we’re incredibly proud of the progress, resilience, and unity these players showed.

U14 DII
It was a season of growth and development for the U14 DII Volleyball team. With much of the team new to the game, we progressed from learning the basics to executing beautiful plays in the final game against UCC. All season long, Nathan Zanatta challenged opponents with his serve while Daniel Fantilli and Benjamin Ranieri led with attitude and effort. Overall, the team improved their passes, digs, sets, and attacks and had fun along the way.
