Fall Golf Classic Reaches New Heights
Passionate golfers and St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) alumni, parents, and friends gathered on October 3, 2024, for another sold-out edition of the annual Fall Classic Golf Tournament.
“It is such a well-organized event by the school staff and the Alumni Association,” says Patrick Fradley-Davis ’77, golfer, and member of the SMCS Board of Directors. “The fact that there were alumni and supporters from the school that span many decades is a testament to the strength and depth of the culture that the school holds in our hearts and minds.”
The tournament returned to the scenic Eagles Nest Golf Club for a day of community building and fundraising for the school’s Financial Assistance Programme.
This year, guests were treated to a gift featuring custom SMCS golf club covers and four sleeves of golf balls courtesy of golf ball sponsors ICP Securities Inc., KAPP, RWM, and Tok Group.
Several prizes and competitions were held throughout the day, including the longest-drive competition for the chance to win Leafs tickets courtesy of Executek International.
New this year, golfers enjoyed complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages on the course thanks to the sponsored halfway house and beverage cart by MultiTech.
“A special thank you to the SMCS Golf Committee and all the volunteers who made this year’s alumni golf tourney the best ever! From the course to the food, all was outstanding,” says Albert Brandstatter ’79. “So much fun reconnecting with old friends and re-telling old tales. Definitely one of my annual golfing highlights! And what makes this event even more special is knowing that all profits go to those students who require tuition assistance. What a great way to help develop Catholic men!”
Brady Jones ’01, Jay Calafiore ’01, Chris Slawson ’01, and Steve Albiani (current parent), the winning foursome, took home ready-made blazers embroidered with ‘Fall Classic 2024’ courtesy of Isarti Italian Menswear.
A catered luncheon capped off the day on the course, during which Alexander Cassar ’99, SMCS Chief Financial Officer, highlighted the impact of the Financial Assistance Programme and how it supports the young men at SMCS.
“One in six students receives financial assistance,” says Cassar. “It is important to come together and continually grow bursary programme resources to ensure SMCS remains accessible to all qualified and motivated prospective students.”
This year, the event raised over $75,000, the highest amount ever raised by the annual tournament.
“I was particularly pleased to support bursaries for students in need,” says Fradley-Davis. “What a great rallying event that puts the school brand of Be The Good into practice.”
Thank you to tournament sponsors: Platinum – Fitzrovia; Halfway house/Beverage Cart – MultiTech; Gold – DDL, Capo Sgro LLP, Ridley, DG Group, Rampart, BJRC; Silver – Chartwells, Bernardo Funeral Homes, Cleveland Clinic Canada, Active Insurance Financial Group, Masters Insurance, Executek International; Golf Ball Sponsors – ICP Securities Inc., Tok Group, RWM, KAPP; Golf Cart Static – Fiera Capital.
“We are proud SMCS alumni, and our experience at St. Mike’s has shaped our lives for the better,” says Brian Bannan ’96, who co-chaired the event alongside Brady Jones ’01. “We were truly fortunate to receive a SMCS experience and education. This golf tournament is a way for us to give back to the St. Mike’s community and provide an opportunity for other young men, who may not have the means, to attend SMCS.”
