Homecoming 2024: Your Words and Photos

Blessed with beautiful fall weather, St. Michael’s College School’s (SMCS) Homecoming once again showcased the power of community. School spirit, camaraderie, and friendship permeated the over 1,000 visitors to campus on September 28, 2024.

The day was filled with competitive games of ball hockey, volleyball, soccer, and football. Complementing a busy day in athletics was a performance from the Homecoming Concert Band featuring guest conductor Fr. Andrew Leung, CSB. Homecoming also welcomed an SMCS first with the debut of the inaugural Alumni Homecoming Hockey Tournament in the arena.

“I was fortunate enough to take part in the first annual St. Mike’s Alumni Hockey Tournament at Homecoming this year. I had an absolute blast; it couldn’t have gone any better… aside from our hard-fought 2-1 loss in the semi-final. It was great catching up with staff and friends, old and new, and it was great to see that the St. Mike’s Spirit is alive and well. I am already looking forward to next year!”

Edward Verbanac ’01 – alumnus

“As a St. Mike’s alumnus and parent, Homecoming is a wonderful event to re-live and experience the vibrant spirit of our school. This year’s Homecoming was my family’s tenth consecutive year of attending. It serves as a great venue to meet with former classmates and their families. If you have yet to attend, I highly encourage you to mark the last Saturday of September in your calendar in 2025!”

Peter Shin ’89 – alumnus

“Another fabulous Homecoming at St. Michael’s College School! Seeing old friends, listening to the band, eating good food, enjoying the day, and watching some football. What more would you want to be doing on a Saturday in September?”

Karen Ann Johnson – parent

“This year’s SMCS Homecoming felt like a family reunion, an old-fashioned block party and a football tailgate rolled into one. Face-painted kids running everywhere. Great food and music. Alumni, many still wearing their hockey equipment, reconnecting with old classmates and teachers. And the football stands jammed with students, parents, and grandparents all getting to know one another. Homecoming was the perfect reminder our sons don’t just attend a great school; they’re part of a great community.”

Patricia Carr – parent

“Homecoming was amazing this year! Many of the Grade 8s attended. We watched the football and volleyball games together and cheered on the teams. I encourage everyone to come out and watch our teams play this year when you can – it’s a great opportunity to show your school spirit.”

Mason Gelman, Grade 8

“The week leading up to homecoming is always special. You can feel the spirit in the school as everyone gets excited for the weekend. I was lucky enough to have played a weekday game where all the boys were showing their spirit as well as a game on Homecoming day. Both of these games are a privilege to play in and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life. Homecoming day itself was full of spirit, games, food, and in general a great time that I hope every student gets to experience.”

Nathan Boyd, Grade 12
