SMCS Remembers
The St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) community gathered on Monday, November 11, to participate in the school’s annual Remembrance Day service and to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.
Throughout the week of Remembrance, students and staff had the opportunity to reflect on the school’s ‘empty chairs’. Inspired by the Empty Chair installation near the Somme Battlefield, the empty chairs displayed the images and records of service of six St. Michael’s men who participated in D-Day and made the ultimate sacrifice. These chairs symbolize the empty seats at family tables and featured prominently in this year’s service.
As part of the morning service, guest speaker Chief Warrant Officer Michael Fuentespina shared his 30-year military career with the SMCS community and spoke about how it evolved from a job into a vocation of serving others. His remarks served as a reminder of the importance of our commitment to ‘Be the Good’ in the world.
Lest we forget.
