Students Gather For Annual Mother & Son Celebration
On Sunday, February 2, over 300 community members attended the annual Grades 7-11 Mother & Son Mass and Brunch. The day started with Mass celebrated by Fr. Andrew Leung, CSB and Fr. William May, CSB, which also coincided with the Feast Day of the Presentation of the Lord. This feast day commemorates the moment when Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem, forty days after his birth. Also known as Candlemas in the Roman Catholic Church, the tradition involves bringing candles to the Mass to have them blessed, which was done by Fr. Leung, CSB.
The day once again proved to be a wonderful community celebration and a unique opportunity for our students and their mothers to celebrate with each other.

It was wonderful to see the students involved and engaged throughout the event, including the musical contributions, which pulled everything together nicely, as did the reading samples. And then of course, meeting many fellow moms and seeing our sons’ band together – and not to forget, the brunch buffet was delicious!”

“It was hard to get my son out of bed on Sunday as he wanted to sleep in. I ‘made’ him go to the Mother & Son Mass and Brunch with me because it’s one of my favourite events at SMCS. Well, guess what? He had the best time! We sat with some of his classmates, I got to meet some of his new friends and their moms, and we both enjoyed a delicious brunch. I’m already looking forward to the brunch next year!”
