<h1>SMCSPA Lights, Camera, Legacy Gala to Support Student Life</h1>
<p>The St. Michael’s College School Parents’ Association (SMCSPA) will bring the school community together on Friday, November 13, for the Lights, Camera, Legacy Gala at The Eglinton Grand.</p>
<p>The annual parent-run gala gives our school community a chance to connect while raising funds to support student leadership, clubs, teams, and other student life initiatives.</p>

<p>“‘Lights, Camera, Legacy’ was inspired by the moment our committee first walked into the historic Eglinton Grand—with its soaring ceilings and Old Hollywood glamour, we immediately felt like movie stars,” says Niki Haley-Scott, PA Gala committee chair. “We wanted to create an evening where our community could dress up, lighten things up, and simply have fun together. But the ‘legacy’ is what gives the evening its deeper meaning. As the Parents’ Association’s largest fundraiser, the gala is an incredible opportunity to support co-curricular experiences that help shape our boys. What better way to contribute to the legacy of SMCS than by coming together for a little Hollywood magic?”</p>
<p>The evening will feature dinner, music, entertainment, and live and silent auctions—all aimed at raising money to enrich the SMCS student experience.</p>
<p>“By directing the proceeds back into clubs, athletics, music, the arts, and other co-curricular programming, we help students discover new interests, build confidence, develop leadership skills and form lasting friendships,” says Haley-Scott. “At the same time, the gala strengthens connections and builds friendships within our parent community.”</p>

<p>The Parents’ Association is committed to ensuring that gala proceeds directly benefit SMCS students. Parent volunteers organize the event to keep costs low and maximize funds available for student programming.</p>
<p>Throughout the year, the SMCSPA receives requests from clubs, athletic teams and other student groups seeking support for activities, equipment, and initiatives that enhance the student experience. The committee reviews funding requests to ensure they provide strong value and a clear benefit to students.</p>
<p>“One of the many programmes supported through gala funding is the SMCS Politics Club, which engages more than 100 students in thoughtful discussion and respectful debate,” notes Haley-Scott. “Funding has helped students attend the renowned Munk Debates, where they hear leading thinkers tackle important global issues, and has supported initiatives such as Pizza and Politics and the Open Mike’s debate series. These experiences teach students to think critically, express their convictions, and listen generously to perspectives different from their own. It is a wonderful example of how gala proceeds create meaningful learning opportunities beyond the classroom.”</p>
<p>However, the gala is more than just a fundraiser. It is also a chance for parents, alumni, and other members of the SMCS community to spend an evening together and celebrate the school and its students.</p>

<p>“Success would mean our guests leave having had a truly memorable evening—and perhaps feeling a little like movie stars themselves! It would also mean giving meaningful recognition to our generous sponsors, including the many family-run businesses within the SMCS community that have stepped forward to support our students. If we can match or surpass last year’s fundraising total through the incredible efforts of our new gala committee, that would be the perfect Hollywood ending,” says Haley-Scott.</p>
<p>Sponsorship opportunities also play an integral role in the event’s success. The gala offers businesses and families opportunities to support the event, including donations and auction items. Sponsorship options include a variety of impactful exposure opportunities leading up to and during the event, while donors can also contribute items or experiences for the live and silent auctions.</p>
