Homecoming is back!

A true showcase of the spirit of St. Michael’s College School (SMCS) returns on Saturday, October 1.

The day welcomes students, families, alumni, staff, and friends to come together – in true community celebration! The itinerary includes something for everyone with activities including sports games, music performance, Grade 7 Challenge, BBQ, and a Mporium sale!

“Homecoming is the tradition of welcoming back former students and community members to celebrate a school’s existence. A fitting definition to explain the SMCS Homecoming on Saturday, October 1,” says Kimberley Bailey, Director of Advancement. “After two years of Homecoming being on hiatus due to the pandemic, it’s exciting to welcome the entire SMCS community back to support our current student-athletes and to celebrate! Seeing the stands full of double blue cheering on our students, hearing the roar of the crowd singing the Hoikety Choik, and seeing big smiles on our students’ faces – this is what Homecoming and the SMCS Spirit is all about.”

Getting into the Spirit

In the lead-up to Homecoming, another annual tradition will take place within the walls of SMCS.

“Spirit Week is an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to build community in the present while tapping into the rich history of spirit and tradition that stretches all the way back to 1852,” says John Connelly, Director of Student Affairs. “As a St. Michael’s family, we take this time to encounter one another in friendship and fellowship. New students form new connections, and returning students rekindle their bonds through a shared sense of loyalty and commitment to the school. Everyone in the community enjoys some much-needed fun at the end of a frenetic first month of school. We gather at the Table of the Lord for the Feast of St. Michael as sisters and brothers in Christ and renew our commitment to change the world through lives of faith, character, and service.”

The schedule for Spirit Week includes:

Monday: Double Blue Day. Dress Down: St. Mike’s Spirit Wear, Blue Theme
Tuesday: Twin Day, Giveaway Day. Students dress identically to someone else and share photos for a chance to win a prize
Wednesday: International Spirit Day. Dressing in the colours of your favourite country
Thursday: Feast of St. Michael Mass with a Spirit Assembly during the last period
Friday: Orange Shirt Day. Commemorating Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
