Class Challenges in Progress How Advancement Can Help Established Class Bursaries

In early 2000, St. Michael’s was approached and asked to help communicate the intention of a Class Challenge to collect donations and establish a legacy class bursary. With just a phone call and an intention, this initiative was born.

All funds donated to a class bursary are invested in perpetuity and the interest gained is awarded to a student(s) once the minimum amount of $25,000 is reached.

As the bursary principal grows, so will the amount awarded, either by allocating additional funds to the selected student or by awarding funds to multiple students at the consultation of the specific class and/or its representative, and based on the criteria set out for the specific Class Bursary.

Matching Gifts FAQ’s

Donations are accepted as a one time donation (tax receipt will be mailed when the donation is processed).
Donations are accepted as an ongoing recurring gift (monthly), processed on the 15th of each month and tax receipted twice annually in June and December.
Donations can be pledged over a maximum of 5 years (monthly/quarterly/ bi-annually/annually), processed on the 15th of each month and tax receipted twice annually in June and December.
Your employer may match your donation.
US and UK residents can receive the applicable taxable benefit by donating via FRISBE or Gift Aid.
Donations can be made via your company giving portal or at CanadaHelps (immediate electronic tax receipt).

Established Class Bursaries

DONATE to an established Class Bursary

Class of 1955

Endowed in 2010 by donations from the Class of 1955
On their 50th anniversary dinner, the class started a bursary, which saw the very first bursary awarded on their 55th anniversary
The class meets every five years for an anniversary dinner
The Class of 1955 has established this Entrance Bursary to assist a student with financial need and a high academic standard to attend St. Michael’s College School. This award will be given to one student for a maximum of four years provided he maintains the criteria requirements.
The Bursary will be awarded to a student for Grades 9 to 12 consecutively, provided the financial need continues and he maintains a good academic standing. This Bursary will be for a minimum of $1,500 for each academic year that the student continues to qualify.

Class of 1966

Endowed in 2019 by donations from the Class of 1966
The Class Bursary will contain a resiliency component within the criteria
The bursary will be awarded for the first time in May 2020
The Class of 1966 Resilience Award was established in 2020 to recognize a student in his Grade 11 school year who has struggled through difficult personal, family or other hardships and has succeeded while achieving an average grade of 70%. The principal will be invested in perpetuity, and only the interest will be used to fund the award.

The award will be granted to one student in his Grade 11 academic year, who has struggled through a difficult personal, family or other hardship and has succeeded while achieving an average grade of 70%. The student shall be awarded $1,000 at the end of his Grade 11 academic year.

Class of 1984

Endowed in 2004 by donations from the Class of 1984
The Class has been meeting annually for dinner since 1988
In 2001, they created a survey for a class project, and unanimously decided on a class bursary
The class created the first Class Bursary and currently have over $100,000 in their bursary fund

The Class of 1993 has established this Entrance Bursary to assist a student with financial need and a high academic standard to attend St. Michael’s College School. This award will be given to one student for a maximum of four years provided he maintains the criteria requirements.
The Bursary will be awarded to a student for Grades 9 to 12 consecutively, provided the financial need continues and he maintains a good academic standing. This Bursary will be for a minimum of $1,000 for each academic year that the student continues to qualify, to a maximum of $4,000 over four academic years.
